What is vu quang ox?

Vu Quang ox (Pseudoryx nghetinhensis) is a critically endangered species of hoofed mammals native to Vietnam and Laos. The species was discovered in 1992, and it is named after the region where it was first found - the Vu Quang Nature Reserve, located in the Annamite Mountains.

Vu Quang oxen are a unique species of bovine, with a slender and graceful body, short, sharp horns, and striking white markings on their face, legs, and tail. They have large, dark eyes and thick, shaggy fur, which is reddish-brown in color.

Due to habitat loss and rampant hunting for their meat and horns, the Vu Quang ox population has declined rapidly over the last few decades. It is estimated that less than 100 individuals survive in the wild, with only a handful in captivity. Conservation efforts are in place to protect these rare and beautiful animals, but more needs to be done to ensure their survival.
